Targeting Target

Target is the BOMB. Seriously.

So, Target has their own website database of coupons.

They allow "stacking," which means I can use a manufacturer coupon ON TOP of whatever I find on that Target coupon website.

I walked out of there with $50.12 worth of merchandise and only had to pay 8 cents. :)

Here's how I did it!

My original Total: $50.12

Total Coupon Value: $26.32

New Total: $25.08 (tax included in this total)

I had a $25 gift gard to Target, so I only paid 8 cents :)

(Deceiving, I know. But, I didn't lie... it was a free gift card, so it was free to me!)

But on a more serious note, stores have a deal where they will give you a $25 gift card just for transferring your prescription to their pharmacy. Target and HEB both used to have this deal. Kroger is the only one I know of right now.

My First Adventure

My first "Extreme" trip to couponing was to CVS on July 13, 2011.

Here is a run-down of the deals I found! The deals get SWEETER as you go down :)

- Crest 3D White Mouthwash (which I ALREADY buy)
         Regular price: $4.99 per bottle
         Sale Price: 2 for $7.98
**Coupon used: $.75 off 1 bottle
(Used two coupons because I was buying two bottles)
          Final Price: $3.24 per bottle

-Herbal Essences "Tousle Me Softly" Mousse/Spray
          Regular price: $4.99
          Sale Price: $3.21 (clearance)
**Coupon used: $3 off when you buy 2 Herbal Essence products
(Bought 4 bottles total: 2 for sale price at $3.21, two with the coupon for $.21!)
          Final Price: $1.71 per bottle

-BIC Soleil Razors (Which are my FAVORITE!!)
          Regular Price: $7.99
          Sale Price: $6.79
CVS Special: Buy one, get one half off
**Coupon used: $3 off BIC Soleil Razors
          Final Price: $1.89 per pack

^CVS allows use of coupon for both purchased regular price and one half off. So, I bought one pack for $6.79-$3.00= 3.79, and the half off price was $3.39. The coupon brought the second one down to $.39.

-Pantene Pro-V Shampoo
          Regular Price: $4.99
**Coupon(s) used: $3 off Pantene product (manufacturer coupon)
$2 off Pantene product (CVS coupon)
Final Price: FREE :) (Plus they owed me a penny!)

CVS allows use of one manufacturer coupon (ones from SmartSource/RedPlum/P&G from the newspapers, or some found online) AND a store coupon on the same item.

Other not-so-noteworthy coupons I used were off deodorant (just needed some- it wasn't on sale). Also, I had $5 "Extra Bucks" from CVS credited toward my total. (These print off of receipts for ExtraCare card users.) I was so excited to walk out with $10.30 in-store savings and $25.50 saved just from the coupons I had clipped and brought in. :)

Coupon Wisdom

Ever since I came to college, I have clipped coupons. I would scan through the newspaper inserts, clip what I already buy, and just have the cashier scan them at the grocery store. This would save me about $10-$20 at the end, but my grocery bills were still around $100. (I HATE grocery shopping, so these trips could last me at least 3 weeks.)

- - - Allow me to take the opportunity to express that I HATE shopping. HATE it. Grocery shopping is the WORST to me. Couponing has helped me look forward to the dreaded trip, however. (If only my favorite clothing stores would offer more coupons... maybe then I would enjoy clothes shopping, too!) Anyway...

Lately, however, I have realized that the following encompass the "art" of couponing...

1. Clipping ALL coupons... even if you really love Secret deodorant and the coupon is for Dove.
2. Holding onto the coupon and use it when the item is on sale!
3. Staying on the lookout for sales! Kroger, MY grocery store, doesn't always have things the cheapest. If I have to make an extra stop to CVS to get the best deal, sure it's annoying (again, I hate shopping), but when I look at my receipt I want to do it all over again. :)

First Post

I have decided to coupon in order to save money on things I already buy.

If you're like me, you've watched Extreme Couponing on TLC with two emotions- awe AND disbelief. On the one hand, people REALLY get paid to go home with thousands of dollars worth of stuff? BUT... what the heck do you need 600 boxes of ramen noodles for? And won't those 100 toothpastes go bad soon?

I'm taking my own approach to couponing. I'm okay with getting things for cheap and free, but I don't want a $17,000 stockpile in my house, and I only want to come home with things that I need. (Disclaimer: I see deals that give you overages on things not needed in order to buy stuff I need... If I ever come across this, SURE! But I just don't want to pay for cheap stuff just because it is cheap. Just not sensible in my own opinion.)

So, if ANYONE ends up reading this, I hope I can help you find at least ONE deal! :)
